The Great American Motor Fair came to the Greenville Pickens
Fair Ground for the July 4th holidays. There were vendors selling
their wares, swap meets and shows. Along with Sprint cars, Monster Trucks, Classic
Cars, and the Racing Lawn mowers, were the
Rock Crawlers. Ironman 4WD of Pickens, SC. set up a Rock Crawl competition and
opened it to anyone who wanted to show their
skill or just try their luck.
There were some mildly modified vehicles along with a few that were heavily
modified. We had some wild boys from the
"Punch it Now, Fix it Later Club" out of the Anderson area. One fellow
came all the way down from Monroe NC to have some fun
with us. These guys play hard and have a ball doing it. If you have a question
about them, their name tells their story.
Travis Bracken of Bracken Landscaping was there with his blue and yellow Scrambler.
Travis showed what a heavily modified vehicle
is capable of. But as Travis will tell you, "The harder you play, the more
you can break." He demonstrated with springs,
steering linkage, drive shafts, and an output shaft.
Chris Durham, a
top contender in the RCAA sanctioned Rock Crawling competitions, showed up with
his new Jeep to show it
off and put on a great show and taught us all some neat tricks on how they get
around tight corners.
In all we had a great time. Everyone is hoping to have the rock crawl as a regular
thing.
